Welcome!

What is a Colorado Mountain Dog?

Colorado Mountain Dogs are distinctly different - tall, lean, with slender, non-drooling muzzles, easy-care medium length coats, and a beautiful athletic appearance. They are selected for abilities which make them wonderful for small farms — rigorous guarding of livestock, less barking and wandering, and greater acceptance of people they don’t know, unless an actual threat is perceived.

Tierhaus 23 is located in Elbert, Colorado.  Founded in 2023, we raise Colorado Mountain Dogs, Angora and Nigora goats, Hedemora chickens, and heritage turkeys.  We started with a pup, CCH Cadsuane, and an adult mentor, SCF Sasha.  We quickly realized that Sasha needed backup to guard the goats, and we added DITR Cleo.    Cleo came to us bred, so we dove right into raising puppies.  With the help of friends and family we produced a litter of well rounded pups, socialized with adults, children, and livestock.  We retained 2 stud candidates, T23 Roque and T23 Daxo.   In June we added STHH Legend, a gorgeous blue pup whom we also have high hopes for as a stud candidate.

Health testing is very important to our program, our breeding dogs are DNA tested though Embark and undergo Pennhip testing to ensure hip health, as well as OFA elbows in the younger generations.    This type of testing is strongly recomended within the Colorado Mountain Dog Registry to ensure the health and longevity of our dogs.   It is important to me that any lines that include T23 genetics also adopt a similar philosophy.  Breeding candidates will be evaluated for temperment, conformation, health and orthopedic soundness.

OUM Ophelia of T23 will be the dam of our next litter this fall.  We are interviewing stud candidates and will update once one is chosen.

Our studs, T23 Roque and STHH Legend of T23 have a number of upcoming pairings that I am very excited about.  I am happy to connect interested homes with our partner breeders.
